So, We all know that one really popular RPG, right? Undertale? yeah, that's the one. There's been an onslaught of OCs considered 'Bad'. I concur. There ARE some really bleach worthy OCs right there right now. So, that's how I got here. This is the way I see things when making an OC. Follow these things, and you're safe in my book.

First of all, what are you going to make your OC? A bug monster like Muffet? A robot? a Skeleton? A hybrid? what?
Well, There's been many monsters in-game directly inspired by animals and objects. Heres some good ones that I was going to use for myself:
What about a lava lamp monster?
A monster that can take information from a computer and replicate it?
A Cerberus monster?
There're many possibilities. But-

Making a Skeleton/ Robot/ Ghost, etcetera.
Characters like Napstablook, Mettaton, Sans, make you go "Oooh! I want to make one like that!"

But, you need to actually know how to make one.

Here's some DOS and DONTS for skeletons! [list style]

  • Try avoiding Snowdin living. Papyrus and Sans already live there. Try Areas like Hotlands or Waterfalls. My OCS live in a log cabin, in the beginning of waterfalls, just cold enough from the water and the snow.
  • Please DO NOT USE GLOWING EYES. That just makes it a bad OC instantly. Monsters can have magic, yes. But The 'glowing eye' factor has already been used by Sans, and I guarantee every skeleton OC I see that has that power is shipped/married to Sans. You don't want to be like that, Do you? Save Sans. Donate your sins today.
  • Please try avoiding being roommates with The skeleton bros. It would affect the undertale storyline too much. They're Toby Fox's OCS. You wouldn't want some fan of yours shipping OCs with your character and living with your character without permission. So please just remember that. Try making your OC live on their own.
  • Please don't make identical OCs. IE: making two OCs siblings, one being tall and one being short.
  • Also, if your skeletons a font, as I assume every skeleton is, please make it  some type of MS font, like papyrus and sans. My OC is named after the font 'Juice'. please don't use two worded fonts. Unless it's something like comic sans or Lucida Sans. They can be shortened. Sans is just called 'sans' because he uses two types, as I can see would be the same for Lucida.
  • Please avoid using overly popular fonts, like fixedsys, arial, times new roman, etcetera.
  • BE CREATIVE WITH YOUR CLOTHING! don't make your OC wear a hoodie shorts and slippers. or make your OC wear a scarf and boots and... whatever papy wears.
  • Please do not use sans quotes and/or variations of it. I cannot stress this enough. I see 'Dirty sister killer", "If you come any closer, I'll give you a bad time" and "you're in hell" by skeleton OCS way too much.
  • Basically, almost all skeleton OCS are rip off of Sans. If you can avoid any similarity or relationship between him and papyrus, that'd be great.
  • Please do not make your skeleton OC harder than Sans on genocide run. (if it's just before or after the judging hall) Thats just ripping off, if they're tough on pacifist/neutral, make them die in one hit on Geno, or easy to fight. Also, please don't make your OC dodge on a genocide route.
  • Please do use and create your own attack ideas. AND DO NOT USE GASTER BLASTERS PLEASE.
Skeleton Ocs done. I bet all your guys are guilty of one of these things.

Skeletons had a hugeeee part because they're the majority of undertale OCS.

random tips:
  • Please don't make your OC related to any canon characters.
  • please do not make it royalty, either.
  • don't make your OC a major boss. I guess mini boss is the best option for OCs. they don't affect the storyline too much.
  • Remember: your character and their backstory should not change the storyline drastically. it's not really a fan character then, more like an alternate universe. if you want your OC to fit in in their world, you need to make it so they don't alter the plot, or the game itself. however, I am very flexible with this rule.
  • please for the love of Asgore, don't ship your OC.  the only time I find shipping okay is when it's RP only. If it's part of your OCS storyline, you'll be picked on for being a bad OC. Say, if someone came up to you and wanted to be Undyne, and you shipped your OC and Undyne. (just for fun shipping, not part of their storyline) then ask them! if they say no, then, well be a canon or just no shipping. RPs are temporarily and just for fun.
DO:
My OC's name is blah. she lives in blah. she wears blah.  Relationship status: SINGLE.
Don't: My OCS name is ebony, she lives in hotlands. shes alphys girlfriend.
as I said, it's fun to insert your OC, just don't make it a part of them.
One last thing. Remember, these are Toby's characters. unless you're roleplaying as them or writing a fanfiction, you can't decide their actions. You can't say 'my OC is girlfriend with Sans and he loves her and promised he'd always protect her" NO. You can't decide that. This is toby's Character Your typing about, deciding their fate behind his back. (technically)
It's time for me to sleep. I might update this tomorrow. tell me if you agree, and what points you disagree with. TTYL! ~ <3
